After a statewide search, Kennedy Catholic High School this week announced that 1999 alum Ryan Mummert will be its new Athletic Director, following the retirement of Don Hoffman.

“I am extremely excited and fortunate to return to Kennedy Catholic as the Athletic Director,” Mummert said. “Kennedy Catholic has such a rich tradition both athletically and academically and I look forward to helping our student-athletes achieve great success on the field, in the classroom, and in our community. I want to thank President Mohs for this opportunity, and I hope I can have a positive impact at a place that has had significant impact on my life.”

“We had many strong applicants apply, yet Ryan stood out for many reasons,” said President/Principal Matthew Mohs. “Besides being a proud alumnus and part of Lancer Nation history, Ryan comes with close to twenty years of coaching and administration experience. His passion for Lancer Athletics and his strong faith, along with his dedication to the student-athlete both on and off the field make him the right person to lead the Lancer Nation in the coming years.”

Originally from Tukwila, and a graduate of Western Washington University, Mummert has been involved in athletic leadership from local little league to the collegiate level. For the past 13 years, he was the Head Baseball Coach and Athletic Coordinator at Tacoma Community College (TCC). While there he became the all-time winningest coach and produced the top six winningest seasons in program history. His personal philosophy stresses the importance of nurturing both the student and the athlete. At TCC, Mummert’s student-athletes consistently held the highest grade point averages in the Athletic Department and he has been one of the most successful coaches at placing his players at the next level. Since 2013, no other junior college in the Pacific Northwest has sent more players to the Division 1 level than TCC.

Mummert was also an adjunct faculty in the TCC Athletic Department and is a current member of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Baseball Committee. Previously, Mummert held assistant coaching positions at Midland College (Midland, TX), St. Martin’s University (Lacey, WA), and Sehome High School (Bellingham, WA).

An accomplished athlete himself, Mummert participated in baseball, football, and basketball throughout his time at Kennedy Catholic. He helped lead his teams to multiple league titles, numerous state playoff appearances, and a State Championship in Baseball in 1999.

Mummert and his wife Megan live in Des Moines with their two sons, Mason (12) and Myles (9).
