This afternoon I tripped and fell at the corner of SW 152nd and 4th Ave SW.
Instantly, passersby handed me a bottle of water and some napkins for my bleeding lip. I asked my husband to go into the sandwich shop for some ice. Even before he could respond, a lovely woman came out with some ice. She then delivered the box of books we had to the neighboring bookstore.
Meanwhile, others stood by waiting to assist me in getting up from the sidewalk onto the park bench.
While my pride (along with my lip and glasses) is bruised, my faith in the kindness of my fellow Burien community residents is over the top! Thank you, thank you so very much to everyone who was so spontaneously available to help. Your kindness is appreciated more than you can imagine.
I’m proud to call Burien home.

This story touches the heart, and is also why I love calling Burien home. Yesterday, our whole community spontaneously gathered at Lakeview Park to enjoy the new playground equipment, and it was a reminder of the joy of living in such a loving and supportive community.
That said, I have also tripped on 152nd and 4th Ave, on the NW corner by the library. There is a place where the sidewalk becomes uneven. I was carrying my two year old and he fell too. While I appreciate the outpouring of support by the community, I also think it’s an opportunity to draw attention to a sidewalk issue that is causing people to fall. Hopefully, someone will read this and take notice.
