A man was found dead Monday morning, Mar. 9 after a motorhome caught fire in Burien’s Gregory Heights neighborhood.

Fire crews were dispatched at 7:53 a.m. and arrived to the scene on Marine View Drive SW at 8:01 a.m., with water on the fire one minute later, according to King County Fire District No. 2 Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal Ray Desmarais.

Firefighters found the motorhome fully engulfed in flames upon arrival, and sadly discovered a single deceased male inside the RV.

According to Desmarais, a neighbor first noticed smoke coming from the vehicle and called 911. While on the phone with dispatchers, the neighbor went to a nearby home adjacent to where the RV was parked to notify residents of the fire.

The neighbor and a resident of the home then attempted to contact the occupant of the motorhome, but were unable to access the vehicle because of heavy smoke and fire conditions.

No injuries were reported among firefighters, the neighbor or the nearby resident who attempted to check on the occupant, according to officials.

Because the fire involved a fatality, the King County Fire Investigation Unit and Major Crimes detectives were called to investigate.

Officials said the investigation remains underway and the cause and origin of the blaze have not yet been determined, although initial indicators suggest it may have been accidental.

The identity of the victim will be released soon by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
