Area residents can sign up now to volunteer for a community salmon survey team, with training planned for late September and two tree planting events scheduled later this fall, according to Miller and Walker Creeks Stewardship.
No prior experience is needed for the Community Salmon Investigation team. Organizers will provide practical training to prepare volunteers for the surveys.
The effort brings together partners including Burien, SeaTac and Normandy Park, along with Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group, King County, the Port of Seattle and the Miller and Walker Creeks Stewardship program.

Residents who want to help restore local forests can also join tree planting events Nov. 7 at Miller Creek Trail and Dec. 5 at Walker Preserve. Both events run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to the stewardship announcement.
