A fire damaged most of a residence with three separate living spaces in the 10400 block of 15th Ave. SW in White Center on Thursday, April 30, displacing multiple families and prompting Red Cross assistance, according to King County Fire District No. 2 and the Red Cross.
Ray Desmarais, assistant chief and fire marshal for King County Fire District No. 2, told South King Media that the structure was a single family type residence with three separate living spaces. He said most of the structure sustained fire damage and all families living there were displaced.
No injuries were reported to occupants or firefighters, Desmarais said, and one lizard was rescued.
Initial reports from occupants indicated the fire started in a bedroom, Desmarais said. He said cause of the fire is possibly electrical, but no origin or cause has been determined.
The fire remains under investigation by the King County fire investigation uni.
Desmarais said the Red Cross was called to assist 12 to 14 people. The Red Cross said Disaster Action Team volunteers were mobilizing after a call for assistance reported that approximately 14 people and some pets were displaced.
Red Cross volunteers were expected to evaluate immediate needs and offer assistance once on scene, the organization said.
The fire was in King County Fire District No. 2’s jurisdiction, with assistance from Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, the Port of Seattle, Medic One and the Zone 3 rehab unit, Desmarais said.
