As part of the America 250 commemorations, the Pacific Northwest Railroad Archive (PNRA) will host “America 250: Revisiting the Bicentennial Freedom Train” on Saturday, Sept. 12.
This FREE event – which will run from 1–4 p.m. at PNRA’s Burien location (map below) – will include a group of presentations and discussions with people who worked on the Freedom Train project celebrating America’s Bicentennial. Presenters and panelist include people with experience on the project in many different ways.
The event will begin with Ed Berntsen and Doyle McCormack sharing how the idea of the Freedom Train was born and how it became a reality. This vital history will be followed by presentations by people who worked on the project, from engineers to designers. In addition to individual presentations, the event will include a moderated panel discussion.
The event will take place in person at PNRA’s Burien location as well as online. Some of the presenters will be connecting to the event from Portland, where the restoration of the historic 4449 steam engine took place.
Attendees can come for all or part of the discussion.
