EDITOR’S NOTE: We’re bringing back a favorite feature called “Photo Friday”! If you have a great photo you’d like us to share, please email a medium/high-res image to [email protected] and be sure to include what you shot it with, technical settings you used, as well as subject or other details. Thanks!
Today we’re featuring photos taken while flying over the region by noted professional Photographer Francis Zera:
“All of these were taken with my new-ish iPhone 12 Pro Max,” Zera said. “Honestly, the camera in it is so good that I only take my good gear along when I’m doing paid aerials from helicopters. The phone is usually good enough for fun flights.”

- Alki Point. I was riding along in the back seat on a training flight over to the peninsula earlier this month.
- Coming back on the same flight over Puget Sound, just east of Blake Island.
- Containership coming in to Elliott Bay on the same flight.
- Passing over downtown on the way back to RNT on the same flight.
- Passing in front of downtown on the way back from Port Townsend; I was backseating on a different training flight.
