The Highline Bears played the Northwest Honkers for their final inaugural-season home game on Saturday, July 25.
The first pitch was thrown out by the owner of Proletariat Pizza.
Also, a season ticket holder named Chris was surprised for his 50th birthday and also honored on the mound before the game. During the 5th inning the crowd sang Happy Birthday and got Full Tilt Ice cream treats.
#26 is really named Jeffery Lusink. He was the Bear’s starting pitcher and made it to the 8th inning without letting the Honkers score a run. He had help in the outfield too. A diving catch by #3 Kelly had the crowd cheering when he stood up with the ball in his hand.
#11 Wesener had an RBI early in the game. #8 McCulloch had a homerun late in the game. The Bears won 2-0.
After the game, kids ran the bases and collected autographs late into the night.
Did you know that Bears #13, Travis Cook, has been asked to join the Honkers on a road trip to the World Series in Kansas? They leave on Wednesday, so the midweek away games have been canceled.
This is tough for Bears fans. We play the Honkers Monday July 27, 2015 in Fall City, so we want to cheer against them. But they are BORROWING our “Cookie” for their earned trip to the World Series, so we want to cheer for them in Kansas!
The final two games for the Bears are this weekend in Bremerton.
