Things have been getting pretty loud at Highline High School the past few weeks…and it is a good thing!
First, for the first time since 1974, the Lady Pirates are in a position to win a Volleyball league title (a dry spell rivaling some of the professional sports teams we won’t mention). The final home game ever in the Highline Gym will be against Renton Indians TONIGHT – Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018. JV begins at 5:15 p.m. and Varsity starts at 7:15 p.m.
Bring your earplugs and help cheer the Pirates on, who are mostly underclassmen by the way, as they clinch the North Division SPSL 2A Championship title. The West Central District Tournament starts Oct. 25, 2018.  Details to come on where to go watch that match.

Second, the Pirate Cross Country Runners have remained solid in the standings, sending several runners to compete in Divisionals. They are running at the 2A West Central District Meet this Saturday morning (Oct. 27) at Chambers Bay Golf Course starting at 9 am. Bring coffee and an umbrella for this one.

Third, Pirate soccer, golf, and swimming have also been doing well, though not quite as exciting at the moment as these other sports.

Finally, in case you did not hear the midnight cheers on Friday night…the Pirate football team pulled off an amazing feat at Highline Stadium for their Senior Night. For the first time in more than nine years, which is as far back as the current stadium staff goes, there was overtime at a high school football game. And not just one overtime….no, the Pirates insisted upon TWO overtimes and almost a third one before top-ranked Eatonville snuck in touch down to win the game. The game, which was predicted to be 40-0 before halftime, had many people thinking it would be a quick and easy game watching top-ranked Eatonville team against the Pirates. However, lead by a pack of Pirate Seniors, who are the first 8th graders to come through since sports were re-introduced to the middle schools five years ago, we were quick to score first and kept building all game long. From punt return touchdowns to interceptions and incredible defensive stops, the Pirates played their hearts out and left nothing in the tank. The final score was 46-52. The Pirates have now scored points in 7 of their 8 games…time to start practicing field goals future Pirates!
The Pirate Football team have their final game against Renton this Friday night (Oct. 26) at 7 p.m. in Highline Stadium. Grab a blanket and come yell your Pirate 12 heart out!

ABOUT OUR SPORTS SPONSOR:
Dr. William C. Kenner, V

“Having the opportunity to utilize my expertise and help patients achieve optimum, functional oral health is what drives my passion for dentistry.”

About our office:
Our patients have a great appreciation for the care that we provide, and many of them have been with the practice since it was opened by my father in 1978. It is extremely rewarding to see those patients entrust our office with their own care, the care of their children, and their friends and family. We strive to provide quality, patient-centered dental care. Our goal is to create a unique dental experience for our patients, where their needs and comfort come first. Each Team member brings their individual element to the office, making everyday entertaining and enjoyable.
For the past four years the Kenner Dental Group has been an event sponsor for the Burien Brat Trot, benefiting Highline Schools Foundation. We have also worked to raise awareness of children’s oral health and provided pediatric dental care in the community.
I am a Burien native born and raised. My wife Dr. Leigh Kenner, who I met in dental school, and I have been married since October 2009. We have two beautiful children, daughter Brynn and son Liam, along with two dogs, Lilly and Cali. Our house is always a bit busy, but when there is time to relax and get away, our family loves outdoor activities together, watching the Seahawks, traveling to see family in San Diego and Palm Springs, and enjoying the beach along Alki. My individual outdoor passion is fresh-water fly fishing, although I’ve been known to throw saltwater flies off Alki Point and Fauntleroy occasionally.
