Photos and Story by Isabel Herbruger, age 12

There are so many high school sports to choose from every week, it is hard to keep track of everything!
First, there was a Lady Pirates Swim and Dive meet at Mt. Rainier Pool a week ago – Friday, Sept. 9, 2016.

There are a lot more swim and dive photos at: The Other Pirate Sports Page

Last Thursday (9/15/16) was also my first Pirate Volleyball game. The Pirates played Tyee and lost 2-3:

The rest of the photos from that game are also at: The Other Pirate Sports Page

There were two Lady Pirate soccer games this past week. The Pirates beat Tyee 10-1 on Tuesday (9/13/16). The Tyee coach was happy about how his team switched between offense and defense quickly, but they need to focus more on their defense. The Pirate coach said the girls did great on their shot attempts, but need to work on being closer together on the field:

On Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, the Lady Pirates lost to Orting 0-5. Orting was one of the teams that beat the Pirates in the playoffs last year. The Orting coach was very happy with his team, “They had a bad week last week, and had a lot of things to work on. This was a complete game, they did a great job.”

The Pirate coach pointed out Orting took 18 shots on Goalie Makenna and only scored five times. During the game, I heard the Orting bench talking about how good the Pirate goalie was, and it was really surprising them. The other problem for the Pirates was they only had one sub for the entire game:

Finally, the Pirates had a football game on Friday, Sept. 16, 2019 at Highline Memorial against WF West from Chehalis. There is a new head coach for the Pirates and there looks like there is a lot more passing going on than last year. The Pirates lost 14-34, but there were lots of times the Pirates came close to scoring, so it was a fun game to watch.  There was an exciting touchdown for the Pirates at the end of the game. The other team missed an interception and the Pirates caught it in the endzone! Then they did a successful 2-point conversion. There are more football game photos at: Highline Pirate Football

There was also a huge Cross Country meet in Fort Steilacoom on Saturday (9/16/16). There are a few photos from it at:  Highline Cross Country and Track

There are lots of Pirate sports to watch every week. It is a good idea to bring little brothers and sisters to Pirate games so they can learn about playing sports in high school too. To know what sports are going on, the SPLSA website lists all the high school sports available to see each week.

Until the next Pirate event I can be at,
