Premiere Burien Film Office Happy Hour plays to a packed house Tues. night

by Scott Schaefer The first-ever monthly ‘Happy Hour’ for the new Burien Film Office premiered to a packed house at the Tin Theater Tuesday night (Feb. 2), with over 50 film and arts enthusiasts in attendance. As we first reported, the city created a new Film Office last year, with a mission of “supporting and promoting Burien’s local film industry by connecting filmmakers with information and raising the profile of film in Burien” (read more here). Here’s some of what happened at this first event (emceed by yours truly):

• Intern Lori Shannon and Chris Craig represented the City at Tuesday’s event, speaking about what the City plans to do as well as receiving numerous ideas from attendees, such as creating a database of locals who want to work on films.
• Shelli Park and John White announced details about the 2nd annual Burien Film Festival, to be held in conjunction with the Burien UFO Festival on April 1 (more details at http://www.burienfilmfestival.com).
• Filmmakers Lacey Leavitt and Mischa Jakupcak shared their experiences filming in Burien. Two of their recent projects were shot at White’s historic ‘Forest Ledge’ home near Eagle Landing Park, including a web series called ‘Automata,’ and another called MPOZ.

A father will go to sinister, even absurd lengths to secure a stable future for his daughter and granddaughter.

The film featured Paul Eenhoorn, along with area residents Angela DiMarco and David S. Hogan, Rachelle Henry, Tom Dewey and Madeline Nutting.

Filming in Burien – Need to Know Resources for the filmmaker Whether you have a steadfast plan or just an idea, we encourage you to reach out to the City.  This office is committed to helping prospective filmmakers find the information they need to start filming at City locations. Permit information

• Permits in Burien are needed in 2 situations:
  • If the filming is expected to block the public right-of-way, a Right-of-Way (ROW) use permit will be required.  ROW use permits are administered by the Public Works Department and more information can be found at www.burienwa.gov/documentcenter/home/view/160
  • If the filming will exceed a total of 2 days per calendar year, it may require a Temporary Use Permit.  Temporary Use Permits are administered by the Community Development Department and more information can be found at http://www.burienwa.gov/DocumentCenter/Home/View/708
