All are invited to come help celebrate the new Burien Creative District’s obtaining its sought-after designation, officially recognizing the City of Burien as a hub for innovation, arts and culture, and creativity.

This free event will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Highline Heritage Museum.

The award-winning Creative Districts program, under the Washington State Arts Commission, works to grow the creative sector and support economic development in geographically defined areas of cultural and economic activity.

This designation is the culmination of over two years of collaborative efforts by the Burien Creative District Committee, which is composed of Burien residents, businesses, nonprofits, and representatives from city government. Additional strategic work was done by a broader coalition of Burien stakeholders comprising the Burien Creative District Steering Committee.

The celebration will include local food and drinks, live music from the Ryan Burns Duo, and a short program highlighting the Burien Creative District and how the community can get involved.

“We’re looking forward to celebrating the designation of Certified Creative District and its role in promoting economic development by supporting local artists, performers, cultural and heritage organizations, and the creative economy,” said Committee Co-Chairs, Virginia Wright and Andrew McMasters. “All members of the Burien community are invited to attend this fun event, learn more about the district, and how to participate.”
