The Rotary Club of Burien & White Center will raise money for children’s Christmas shopping gift cards at its final Burien Farmers Market booth of the year, scheduled for this Thursday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The booth will highlight Children’s Shop with a Cop, an annual event that pairs local children with Burien police officers for a shopping trip at Fred Meyer shortly before Christmas, according to an announcement from Penny West on behalf of the club.

Each child receives a gift card to buy presents for themselves and loved ones, including gifts their families might otherwise be unable to afford. Officers accompany the children as they shop.

“Every donation helps us give another local child a Christmas shopping experience they’ll remember,” West wrote.

Visitors are encouraged to stop by the market booth, learn about the program and contribute toward gift cards. The club’s announcement also says Burien Police Department members will join volunteers at the booth.

Rotarians Will Help Westside Baby

Earlier Thursday, Rotary volunteers will help at WestSide Baby from 10 a.m. to Noon, supporting the organization’s work with local children and families. Volunteers are asked to RSVP online.
