Every Highline student deserves a safe, healthy school and the tools they need to learn. On Nov. 3, we have an opportunity to make that happen by voting YES on Propositions 1 and 2.

Some are asking: Why not wait?

Waiting will turn aging roofs, heating systems, plumbing and electrical issues into bigger, more expensive fixes. It will turn today’s critical repairs into tomorrow’s emergencies. It will make student data vulnerable to cyberattacks and hobble school communication systems.

Prop. 1 would rebuild aging middle schools, improve safety for students and address critical building needs across Highline.

School construction takes years to design, permit, and build. A YES vote now allows work to begin. Delaying the decision pushes safe, updated schools further into the future while students wait and construction costs escalate.

Prop. 2 would restore local technology funding for the cybersecurity, school-to-family communication systems, software necessary for school operations, and responsible classroom technology,

“The one thing we all agree on is that our kids deserve schools that are safe and modern,” said Rep. Mia Gregerson, (SeaTac).

“Both of these measures will help our students, our families and our economy,” said Sen. Karen Keiser (retired).

Highline’s community-led advisory committee has spent years studying facility needs and developing this fiscally responsible plan. Vote YES on Props. 1 and 2 by Nov. 3. Our students can’t wait.
