In a heartwarming show of community support, $42,000 was raised to benefit students, educators, families, and communities for the Highline Schools Foundation at Saturday’s (Oct. 5, 2024) Burien Brat Trot & Oktoberfest.

This amount was slightly more than a +13 percent increase over 2023’s event.

  • The event had 701 registered runners representing 17 teams and 28 school affiliations.
  • The fundraiser was powered by 40 volunteers and supported by generous sponsors.
  • Attendees consumed 600 root beer floats during the event.
  • Notable performances came from the winning teams, Soundview Strength & Conditioning and the Highline Hornets, who tied for top honors.
  • The funds raised will go toward enriching educational opportunities for students, teachers, and families across the Highline district.
  • The initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of local businesses and organizations, with Discover Burien playing a key role as the event’s primary partner.
  • The fundraiser saw widespread support from sponsors, including KeyBank, Burien Chevrolet, Burien Toyota, Groundworks, HMS Host, Highline Education Association, Bodystrong Burien, Pain Science Physical Therapy, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, Treat Cookies, Buffalo Wild Wings, The B-Town (Burien) Blog, and Alaska Airlines.

Organizers extended their thanks to the sponsors, partners, and community members who contributed to the event’s success. Their collective efforts have ensured continued support for students and educators in the Highline district.

“We had such a brat-tastic time at Burien Brat Trot on Saturday,” organizers said. “Thanks to all 700+ of the students, families, and community members who showed up and participated in our 5k and 1k events.”
