The King County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about scam callers who impersonate deputies and claim the person answering has an arrest warrant for missing jury duty.

Other callers claim to be deputies working with the Social Security office or say they are calling about unpaid back taxes, according to the Sheriff’s Office. In some cases, scammers have manipulated caller ID to display a valid Sheriff’s Office phone number.

“The King County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call you to tell you that you have a warrant,” police said.

The Sheriff’s Office said all of these calls are scams and advised anyone receiving one to hang up immediately.
