Sound Transit is seeking applicants from South King County to fill two vacancies on its independent Community Oversight Panel, a 15-member group responsible for monitoring the agency’s performance and reporting its findings to the Sound Transit Board of Directors.
According to Sound Transit, the open positions represent the South King County subarea, which includes Algona, Auburn, Burien, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Normandy Park, Pacific, SeaTac and Tukwila.
The Community Oversight Panel was established in 1997 with a mission of ensuring that Sound Transit meets its commitments to the public through independent oversight of the agency’s planning, construction and operational activities.
Panel members are expected to stay informed about the agency’s actions and future plans, review programs, ask questions and report their findings back to the Sound Transit Board. Agency staff regularly provide briefings on all aspects of Sound Transit’s work.
Sound Transit said members serve three year terms and come from a variety of professional and community backgrounds across the areas served by the agency’s express bus, commuter rail and light rail systems.
Meetings are held once each month on the second Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at Union Station in downtown Seattle, with a virtual attendance option available.
According to Sound Transit, applicants with experience or knowledge in community engagement, project planning, budgeting and financial planning, project schedule management, performance audits, social justice and equity efforts, or rider experience are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must live or work within the Sound Transit District and be able to commit to monthly meetings. The agency said it is seeking people from diverse backgrounds and professional experiences to support its oversight, planning and operations.
The Sound Transit Board will review and confirm the appointments.
Applications will remain open until the positions are filled.
