This Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023 has been declared the World Day of Migrants and Refugees, and Burien’s St. Francis of Assisi will be holding a panel discussion.

This free event will begin at 7 p.m. in the Parish Hall below the old church building (map below).

The St. Francis Parish Life, Peace and Justice committee is hosting a panel discussion to look deeper into the needs of recent immigrants and refugees who come to our community after years of fleeing violence, war, famine, and extreme poverty.

A spokesperson from World Relief, an organization that assists relocation of refugees, and coordinates citizen involvement in helping these new families get settled. We will also hear from two local families who will share their experience of being hosts to refugees during their first weeks after arrival.

This is an information gathering event, especially if you have read or heard about local efforts and are curious about any ways you can assist.

Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome.
