Volunteers are needed by the Localists In Burien group this Sunday, Nov. 3 to help clean up the shoulders of SR 509 in Burien.

The event will run from 10 a.m. – Noon.

Interested people are asked to reach out to Charlie Perkins here to grab a spot (and sign a WSDOT waiver), as they have a limit when it comes to the number of people allowed in a”crew” on the shoulder of a freeway.

Here’s more from organizer Rob Halpin:

It’s time to take a look at our adopted highway and our adopted section of Miller Creek.

NOTE: Please reach out to Charlie Perkins here to grab a spot, as we have a limit when it comes to the # of people allowed in a”crew.”

Also, if this is your first time, reach out to Charlie to get the WSDOT waiver, as they won’t let us on the highway without filling that in. I know, I know… :/

The work we’ve done so far has made such a difference, especially when it comes to the rate of water flow and the quality of that water in Miller Creek.

Please, if you’re not busy this lovely, sunny Sunday morning, won’t you join us in cleaning up our highway and our creek for an hour or two?

It just involves a leisurely stroll along the highway or stream with a bag and a set of “grabbers/pickers” (both supplied by us).
