Washington State Patrol (WSP) detectives this week arrested Keoni Williams, 26, in connection with a horrific, fatal collision that occurred on June 2, 2024, on southbound I-5 near the West Seattle Bridge.
Tragically, the collision killed Shanique Dickens, 26, of Burien and Federal Way, who was a 2018 graduate of Highline College.
UPDATE: Here are the incident details, revised to try and provide some clarity:
- The collision occurred around 4 a.m. on June 2, 2024, when a green 1996 Toyota Corolla, traveling down the ramp from the West Seattle Bridge to southbound I-5, lost control and struck the barrier, ending up in lane 1.
- The vehicle’s four occupants exited to reach a safer location.
- A motorhome traveling in lane 2 struck one of the occupants with its passenger-side mirror, knocking her into lane 2. Another passenger pulled her back in front of the Toyota in lane 1.
- An AMR Ford F-150 arrived, positioned behind the Toyota, and activated its emergency lights. While rendering aid to the injured pedestrian, the AMR driver noticed another vehicle approaching at freeway speeds. The F-150 driver and the Toyota passengers managed to jump out of the way.
- The approaching vehicle struck the F-150 truck, pushing it into the Toyota and trapping the injured pedestrian, Dickens, underneath.
- The Seattle Fire Department declared Dickens deceased upon arrival.
- Two 26-year-old passengers in the victim’s vehicle initially told detectives that the driver was a friend named “Tae,” who they claimed had fled the scene after the collision.
- Surveillance footage from a nearby gas station and further investigation revealed that “Tae” did not exist.
- It was determined that Williams was the actual driver of the Toyota. Williams was charged with Felony Hit and Run and providing false statements to law enforcement, and was booked into the King County Jail.
- The driver who struck the AMR vehicle showed signs of impairment, and was arrested for investigation of DUI.
