Nighttime lane and ramp closures on I-5, SR 516 and SR 509 in the Burien, Des Moines, SeaTac and Kent area continue Monday, April 28 through the morning of Friday, May 2, 2025, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
The lane closures on I-5 will allow crews to remove concrete barriers.
The lane and ramp closures on SR 516 will allow crews to perform electrical work.
The SR 509 lane and ramp closures will allow crews to install concrete barriers and stripe the roadway.
This work is part of the SR 509 Completion Project.
I-5 lane closure information
Monday, April 28 through the morning of Tuesday, April 29:
- 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. – Up to three lanes of southbound I-5 will close overnight between South 200th Street/Military Road South (Exit 151) and SR 516 (Exit 149).
Wednesday, April 30 through the morning of Friday, May 2:
- 11:59 p.m. to 4 a.m. – Up to four lanes of northbound I-5 will close nightly between SR 516 (Exit 149) and South 200th Street/Military Road South (Exit 151).
SR 516 lane closure information
Monday, April 28 through the morning of Wednesday, April 30:
- 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane of eastbound SR 516 will close nightly between Military Road South and SR 99.
SR 516 ramp closure information
Wednesday, April 30 through the morning of Friday, May 2:
- 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The SR 516 on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close nightly. A signed detour will be in place.
SR 509 lane closure information
Monday, April 28 through the morning of Wednesday, April 30:
- 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane in each direction of SR 509 will close nightly between Des Moines Memorial Drive South and South 160th Street.
SR 509 ramp closure information
Monday, April 28 through the morning of Tuesday, April 29:
- 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The northbound SR 509 exit to South 160th Street will close overnight.
- 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The South 160th Street on-ramp to northbound SR 509 will close overnight.
- 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The South 160th Street on-ramp to southbound SR 509 will close overnight.
- 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The southbound SR 509 exit to South 160th Street will close overnight.
Tuesday, April 29 through the morning of Wednesday, April 30:
- 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The South 188th Street on-ramp to northbound SR 509 will close overnight.
Tuesday, April 29 through the morning of Thursday, May 1:
- 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The South 160th Street on-ramp to northbound SR 509 will close nightly.
- 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The South 160th Street on-ramp to southbound SR 509 will close nightly.
- 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The northbound SR 509 exit to South 160th Street will close nightly.
During the SR 509 ramp closures, signed detours will be in place.
SR 509 Completion Project information
The SR 509 Completion Project builds 3 miles of new tolled highway between I-5 and South 188th Street near the south end of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The new highway will be completed in stages. The portion between I-5 and 24th Avenue South is scheduled to open in summer 2025 along with the new Veterans Drive tunnel at the SR 516 interchange. The final stage builds the remaining 2 miles of the expressway between 24th Avenue South and South 188th Street. The entire project is planned for completion by 2029.

The SR 509 Completion Project is part of WSDOT’s Puget Sound Gateway Program, which also includes the SR 167 Completion Project in Pierce County. Together, the two completion projects finish critical missing links in Washington’s highway and freight network.
