Your Daily Dose of Natural Beauty, courtesy Advertiser Zenith Holland Nursery – AMAZING pollinator caught on the job:

This busy bee is hard at work visiting the blooms of a Spanish Lavender plant. Caught on camera at Des Moines’ Zenith Holland Nursery, the industrious insect can’t resist the allure of these fragrant herbs. If you are looking to attract more pollinators in your garden, Spanish Lavender is a wonderful choice for sunny spots with good drainage. Spanish Lavender is drought resistant and will bloom throughout summer with little need for watering. A light pruning back in early spring as the new blooming begins will encourage clean growth. At the end of summer or early fall, trim the plants back to about an inch above the wood, and your plants should winter over nicely.

Also a popular choice to attract butterflies, Spanish Lavender are a multi purpose plant which can be used in cooking, and household care. The silvery leaves yield aromatic and essential oils which are used in homeopathy and aromatherapy as calming agents. Seeds from the blooms are often used in sachets which will deter moths or pests when placed in closest or clothing storage. As a cooking ingredient, you will find them in herb rubs for meats and as a unique flavoring for sweets and desserts such as ice creams or shortbread cookies.

With so much to offer its easy to see why Spanish Lavender is irresistible to our flying friends and fellow gardeners alike, why not give it a try this year?
