Burien Police / King County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that on May 1, 2020, deputies observed an SUV traveling at a high rate of speed in the 11600 block of 1st Ave S. in Burien (map below).
Police say that at approximately 2:45 a.m. that morning, radar clocked a vehicle traveling 60 MPH and the decision was made to perform a traffic stop.
The driver ignored lights and sirens though, and continued to travel at a high rate of speed.
Additional deputies were in the area on an unrelated call, and when the driver noticed the deputies’ cruisers he made a rapid turn into a gas station, then cut through an apartment complex to elude deputies.
The driver continued to maneuver through the apartment complex parking lot at a high rate of speed and continued to ignore the lights and sirens of several cruisers that were now attempting to stop the vehicle.
As the driver continued through the parking lot, the decision was made to apply a PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) to stop the vehicle and prevent injuries to responding deputies or the public.
The maneuver was applied, and a patrol car was able to stop the forward movement of the SUV. Deputies approached the driver’s door and ordered him to exit the vehicle. He initially refused.
Once out of the car, the suspect was placed into custody and a records check indicated that he had an active warrant for Failure to Obey a Police Officer. The vehicle he was driving also had no license plates attached.
Inside the patrol car, the suspect became hostile and tried to kick out the windows. He was transported and booked into King County Jail.
