Locally-produced documentary film Reinventing the Patriot will screen at the Tin Theater on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 5:30 p.m., with all proceeds supporting The Sidekick Collective, a local nonprofit that invests in students with the potential to make the world a better place. Reinventing the Patriot is a 22-minute hybrid documentary and spoken-word superhero story based on Federal Way High School graduate Paige Edmiston’s award-winning essay. With the essay as its spine and narrative, the film tells a new superhero story about the FWHS students who in 2012 led a passionate, eight-month campaign to turn a 15-point electoral loss into a 20-point victory, assuring a $120 million state-of-the-art new school. Here’s the trailer: Telling these students’ stories of civic heroism inspired Reinventing the Patriot’s filmmakers to set off on a new adventure. They founded The Sidekick Collective to identify, celebrate and recognize students who, like the Federal Way High School students, give life to the words in Edmiston’s essay by making right what’s wrong, helping others first, and protecting the vulnerable. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s producer and The Sidekick Collective’s Executive Director, Paige Edmiston. Tickets are FREE and can be reserved here. Proceeds from t-shirt sales and donations at the event will benefit The Sidekick Collective. About The Sidekick Collective Combining our love of superhero mythology with a venture capital model, The Sidekick Collective is a fresh take on what it means to ‘invest’ in youth. We find youth who are exceptional in unexpected ways and provide seed funding for their out-of-the-box solutions to the world’s metaphorical (and sometimes literal) asteroids. We call this hero capitalism. The Sidekick Collective was founded by 24-year-old Seattle-native, Paige Edmiston. This is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit’s second year of recognizing high school students for their superhero-ism. Screening Details:
