Burien Actors Theatre presents the offbeat comedy Out of Sterno – from Sept. 26 through Oct. 19 – in the company’s newly-restored performance space, which was damaged by an arson fire on Dec. 10, 2013.
“OUT OF STERNOâ€
Alice in Wonderland meets Peewee Herman as this zany comedy of self-discovery takes Dotty down the rabbit hole. Dotty’s life in Sterno with her husband, Hamel, is absolutely fairytale perfect! True, in their seven years of marriage Hamel has forbidden her to leave their tiny apartment or speak to anyone. But the naïve Dotty is happy spending her days doing arts and crafts and watching video reenactments of the day she and Hamel first met. Then one day, Dotty receives a mysterious phone call, and her life is changed forever. She soon discovers there’s a tawdry world out there, populated by characters such as Barb, the ultra feminist, and Zena, a potty-mouthed hair stylist. Dotty gradually finds herself and learns to make her own choices in this wickedly funny comedy that combines the qualities of a fable with those of a wacky comic strip adventure.
Out of Sterno is a tour de force for the actor performing the role of Dan, who appears as eight different characters, including women.
The show is suitable for ages 13-plus due to occasional adult language.
Ticket prices range from $7 to $20. New this season, student tickets are just $10. For tickets, special deals or other information, go online to www.burienactorstheatre.org or call 206-242-5180.
