In honor of Linda Dougherty, Burien Arts established a scholarship for graduating high school seniors going on to study the arts.
Sadly, Linda passed away on July 7, 2015.
Linda was an active member of Burien Arts since its early days and served multiple times as president. She was a very visible volunteer at every and all Burien Arts’ functions, especially the Strawberry Shortcake Booth during the festival. She was a generous collector of art by local artists, and she proudly displayed their work in her home. Her administrative savvy was especially needed and appreciated by Burien Arts. She mentored new board members and shared her executive skills and grantwriting expertise.
She was also employed as Director of Road Services for King County government where she was well known for taking leftovers from county events and walking them over to homeless shelters. She was selfless, a ray of brightness and good humor and we sorely miss her!
Burien Arts trustees have decided that creating the Linda Dougherty Memorial Art Scholarship would be a fitting tribute to Linda.
The Linda Dougherty Memorial Arts Scholarship is based on financial need, academic merit, achievement, and the student’s future goals. Scholarships are awarded to the recipients during their first year of study at a 2 or 4-year institution.

Please visit this scholarship page for eligibility information and how to apply.

Burien Arts Association’s mission is:

“To enrich the lives of all members of the Burien communities through the arts.”

Burien Arts Association was named Charity of the Year in 2016.
Burien Arts Association (BA) formed in 1964 as Burien Arts Gallery, an informal group of local artists, art enthusiasts and activists who wished to increase access to art in local schools and secure a place to display artists’ work.]]>
