Archie’s Mexican Restaurant in Normandy Park will close Oct. 9, ending more than 16 years under its current owner and marking the departure of a longtime gathering place for South King County diners.
Owner Argelia Sahagun, known as “Archie,” announced the permanent closure in a Sept. 16 social media post to customers. She said the business will be passed to new owners, though the announcement did not identify them or explain what they plan for the location.
“After 16 and a half wonderful years, our time serving this community has come to an end,” Sahagun wrote. “It is with heavy hearts that we announce our permanent closure.”
Sahagun invited customers to visit before the final day, share their memories and say goodbye in person. She also encouraged the community to support the incoming owners.
“We are excited to pass the torch to the new owners,” she wrote. “We hope you will extend the same wonderful support to them on their new journey.”
Archie’s is located at 17821 First Ave South (map below), along the corridor connecting Normandy Park with Burien and Des Moines. The restaurant has served customers from across the Highline area since opening in January 2010.
Sahagun’s history in the local restaurant community stretches back further. Before opening Archie’s, she owned Lago Azul in Des Moines from 1995 to 2008, according to a 2015 Waterland Blog profile.
Archie’s became known as a family restaurant offering Mexican dishes, daily specials and space for meetings and group gatherings. Its restaurant website promotes traditional Mexican recipes, catering, private events and weekend brunch.
The restaurant also served as a community meeting place. In May, it hosted the first Community Connect gathering organized by the city of Normandy Park and the Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce. The event was intended to connect residents, local businesses and city leaders.
“Thank you for 16 incredible years,” Sahagun wrote in her closing message.
