High school seniors in Burien and across South King County can now apply for Elks National Foundation college scholarships worth as much as $50,000, according to Burien Elks Lodge 2143.
Scholarships generally range from $1,000 to $7,500 per year. The foundation will award $30,000 scholarships to its top 20 candidates, paid as $7,500 annually for four years.
The top male and female candidates will each receive $50,000, or $12,500 annually for four years. One male and one female runner up will each receive $40,000, or $10,000 annually for four years.
Applications for the 2027 Most Valuable Student scholarship program are due by 11:59 p.m. Nov. 12.
Awards:
- The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships.
- Male and female students compete separately.
- Ranging from $1,000 per year to $7,500 per year, Most Valuable Student scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree, on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), in a U.S. college or university. All scholarships are in the form of certificates of award conditional upon the full-time enrollment of the winner in an accredited U.S. college or university.
- The Elks National Foundation will award the top 20 MVS candidates $30,000 (4 years $7,500).
- The Elks National Foundation will award the top 2 candidates (1 male, 1 female) $50,000 (4 years $12,500).
- The Elks National Foundation will award 2 runners up candidates (1 male, 1 female) $40,000 (4 years $10,000).
Eligibility:
- Current high school seniors, or the equivalent, who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply.
- Applicants do not need to be related to a member of the Elks.
- High school graduates are not eligible to apply.
- Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are submitted; permanent legal resident status does not qualify.
- Scholarships are available only to students who enroll in four-year undergraduate degree programs at accredited U.S. American colleges or universities.
The Elks National Foundation has supported students since 1931. Across its scholarship programs, the foundation plans to award nearly $5.8 million this year to at least 900 high school seniors recognized for academic achievement and community service.
