Burien’s Black Zia Cantina announced on Saturday, June 13, 2020, that it “will not survive the shutdowns due to COVID-19, and thus will not be reopening,” at least in its current location.

Black Zia – operated by new owner Ana Burnes since early 2019 – is located in the space previously occupied by Sal’s Deli, at 15212 6th Ave SW (map below).

However all hope is not lost, the announcement says, as the staff remains together, dedicated, and vigilant, “while we work toward our next location, at a later time in the coming 2021 year! It will be bigger, it will be stronger, and it will be even more inclusive than we already had strived for during our first years, serving you as Burien’s best spot to eat, drink, and witness wonderful, diverse, and most importantly inclusive performing arts.”

The unique restaurant offered an eclectic mix of New-Mexican-inspired dishes, American bar eats, “and cold drinks to wash it all down.”

“Thank you again to all who have shared our stage, our dining room, and our Zia family. The Black Zia staff appreciates all of our patrons as it has been our greatest honor to serve you, and we encourage all to continue to do the work necessary to keep our communities safe, unified, and inclusive to ALL.”

Here’s the full statement:

“To our patrons,

“At a time in our great Nation where the foundations are being shaken, we would like to start by thanking all of you who have supported us this past year and a half. We do not wish to detract any attention from the grave health or civil matters that currently plague our country and demand immediate action. So to cut straight to the point as to not beat around any bushes, Black Zia Cantina will not survive the shut downs due to Covid-19, and thus will not be re-opening. However all hope is not lost, as the staff remains together, dedicated, and vigilant, while we work toward our next location, at a later time in the coming 2021 year! It will be bigger, it will be stronger, and it will be even more inclusive than we already had strived for during our first years, serving you as Burien’s best spot to eat, drink, and witness wonderful, diverse, and most importantly inclusive performing arts.

“The Black Zia staff appreciates all of our patrons as it has been our greatest honor to serve you, and we encourage all to continue to do the work necessary to keep our communities safe, unified, and inclusive to ALL.

“All our very best,
The Black Zia Staff”
