This week, the Burien City Council and City of Burien released a statement on Councilmember Cydney Moore and Planning Commission Chair Charles Schaefer, regarding their assisting homeless campers moving to a new location on Mar. 30, 2023.

As we previously reported, at its April 17, 2023 meeting, rather than remove Schaefer from his role as Planning Commission Chair, Burien City Council Deputy Mayor Kevin Schilling made a motion that the city instead issue a statement that Schaefer and Councilmember Cydney Moore acted alone as private citizens independent of the city and without approval. This motion passed 4–3.

Below is full text of the statement:

“The Burien City Council and City of Burien want the community to know that Councilmember Cydney Moore and Planning Commission Chair Charles Schaefer acted as private citizens and not as public officials on the evening of March 30, 2023 when they shared information with people living outside of Burien Library/City Hall that led them to move their encampment to a city-owned lot at SW 152nd St and 6th Ave SW.”
