A detailed suspect description provided by a caller helped Burien Police deputies quickly locate and arrest a woman accused of attempting to steal a vehicle on the 4th of July, according to police.
Deputies responded July 4 to a report of an attempted vehicle theft in progress after a caller reported that a woman was inside the caller’s vehicle attempting to steal it. The theft was interrupted before the suspect was able to drive away, police said.
The caller’s description of the suspect allowed deputies to find her just a few blocks from the scene. Police said she was detained without incident while deputies investigated.
During the investigation, deputies learned the woman had a prior conviction for vehicle theft. They also discovered she had three outstanding warrants for her arrest, including a felony warrant for second degree identity theft, a misdemeanor warrant for vehicle trespass and a misdemeanor warrant for possession of burglary tools, police said.
Deputies said a search of the suspect revealed she was concealing tools commonly associated with vehicle thefts, including a wrench and a screwdriver that investigators believe were used during the attempted theft.
The woman was arrested and booked into the King County Jail on suspicion of attempted theft of a motor vehicle, as well as on the outstanding warrants, according to the Burien Police Department.
“This incident is a great reminder that your awareness makes a difference,” police said in a statement. “If you witness suspicious activity, trust your instincts and report it immediately.”
