Are you ready to vote yet in the primary election on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026?

King County Elections has released the official list of candidates who filed to run for federal, legislative and county offices in the 2026 election, with several races affecting South King County voters.

The primary election is set for Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026.

Washington’s top two primary system advances the two candidates receiving the most votes in each race, regardless of party preference, to the Nov. 3 general election.

King County Council District 8

Among the highest profile races in the region is the race for Metropolitan King County Council District 8, which includes Burien and other South King County communities. Three candidates have filed for the nonpartisan seat:

  • *Teresa Mosqueda
  • Mia Jacobson
  • Nick Duda

King County Council District 2

District 2 on the King County Council, which includes portions of South King County including SeaTac and Tukwila, also drew three candidates:

  • *Toshiko Grace Hasegawa
  • Miriam Mboya
  • Rebecca Saldaña

33rd Legislative District

In the 33rd Legislative District, which includes Burien, Normandy Park, SeaTac, Des Moines and parts of Kent, incumbent state Sen. Tina L. Orwall is running unopposed.

34th Legislative District

The 34th Legislative District, which includes White Center, has no contested Senate race, with incumbent Emily Alvarado running unopposed.

State Representative Position 1 incumbent Brianna K. Thomas is also unopposed.

Voters in the 30th Legislative District, which includes portions of Kent, Des Moines and Auburn, will choose between incumbent Claire Wilson and Michael Rutland for state senator.

Voters in the 11th Legislative District, which includes parts of Tukwila and Kent, will see a three way race for State Representative Position 1:

Incumbent Steve Bergquist is running unopposed for Position 2.

9th Congressional District

In the 9th Congressional District, which represents much of South King County:

Ballot Boxes Open Until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4

There are two ballot box locations in Burien:

  • Boulevard Park Library 12015 Roseberg Avenue South Seattle, WA 98168
