The vote was unanimous. City Councilmembers Debi Wagner was excused early, and Stephen Armstrong was absent from the meeting. The two candidates the Council interviewed were Piasecki, who retired in August after 20 years on the Des Moines staff – the last seven as city manager – and David Johnston, who formerly was city manager of Maple Valley. Neither candidate was interested in filling the permanent city manager position that the Burien Council has yet to formulate a plan to fill. Gurol left the city staff last week, but a separation agreement is still being negotiated between the city attorney and Gurol. The attorney will negotiate a temporary city manager agreement with Piasecki, who is expected to take over the interim job in a couple of weeks after a previously-scheduled vacation trip. ]]>

How convenient that he was retired. The entire matter still sounds unbelievably fishy and specifically concocted to remove Gurol who was the best manager the city ever had. Light hearted moments at the expense of the hatchet job on Gurol by Her Highness Lucy and her merry brigade. What an insult to Burien and to people who understand City government. Sad day for all of us. Remember this come election time folks.
