Some 25 (or so) volunteers gathered in the seemingly relentless rain Saturday morning (March 18) as part of a new grassroots effort called ‘Clean Up Burien,’ and collected 500-600 pounds of trash in the downtown area. “This morning was a huge success!” Organizer Christine Lopez told The B-Town Blog. “I was amazed at the turnout we had despite the pouring down rain. We ended up having about 25 people leave the comfort of their warm, dry homes and come out into the cold rain to help clean up the city.” Volunteers met at Town Square Park at 9 a.m., and from there spread out throughout the downtown area to collect garbage. Burien Press provided coffee to help them start the morning. Discover Burien, The City of Burien and Dr. Kenney were kind enough to donate some supplies. “I’m looking forward to our next clean up in May, with hopefully a little better weather,” Christine added. 1. Great job by all. But have to admit its sad when our own city Government is nowhere to be found. Maybe I missed which ones showed up for the cause? Mayor or Council members? Anyway you people who did this a big thanks..

  2. Thanks to all who went above and beyond. It’s just sad our city has people who don’t know what a garbage container is and throw their trash all over the streets. The article did not say if the Mayor or Council members showed up. If so which ones so I can send a email of thanks.
