On Wednesday, May 27, 2020, Discover Burien released an update on its extensive 2020 event cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic – including what would have been the 99th annual Independence Day Parade, the Olde Burien Block Party, Burien UFO Festival, Strawberry Days & Father’s Day Car Show and more.

However, the local non-profit business organization is continuing its weekly Burien Farmers Market – with approved safety precautions – every Thursday until Oct. 29, 2020.

Discover Burien said that “if it is unsafe to gather, events are being postponed or cancelled at the discretion of Discover Burien and/or the City of Burien. These decisions have not been made lightly and we recognize the profound sadness and disappointment some of you might feel. Please trust us when we say: we feel it, too. But it is the right thing to do at this time.”

“The safety of our community is our top priority here at Discover Burien as we navigate to find creative programmable solutions to combat the COVID-19 pandemic,” Executive Director Debra George added. “Things may look and feel a bit different this year as our event models transition to make space for adequate social distancing, but rest assured: we are still here for you – and we’re not going anywhere.”
