If you noticed an increased police presence in downtown Burien on Friday, Mar. 22, 2024, it’s because a monthly anomaly in Burien Police/King County Sheriff’s Office schedules allows for extra staff 2 to 3 days per month, and officers were using this time for training and extra patrols, as well as focused police work.

“Friday, Mar. 22, 2024 was one of these days and we used the time to focus on illegal drug use in the downtown core,” Police Chief Ted Boe said. “The result was nine arrests for drug use and four additional arrests for warrants.”

Boe added that this work “is in addition to our regular resources working to address illegal behavior every day throughout all of Burien.”

  1. The way the citizens of Burien have been led to believe those on the street are there because of the cost of housing, not because of addiction or running from the law. Hmm that kind of misinformation is going against the obvious facts brought forth by this enforcement.

  2. My first job in Seattle was working at God Fathers Pizza in Burien 1981. There’s been a consistency of enjoyable and familiar experiences here. I read up on what’s happening around the area through storytelling services or social media, such as, Instagram or Facebook. Sometimes the headlines catch my attention, like this one. Of course, I wanted to find out what they were arrested for? Where were they? Who Were their victims, and are the victims ok? I want to know the significance of their crimes. Were they on the sidewalk? Were they shooting up somewhere? Were they passed out? I would like to know more. For me, the punchline of the story is “we have more police to round up people doing illegal things so expect a lot more round ups.
13 is a mini bus of people being arrested in one day or in an afternoon for a village or (Dorf, as it would be referred to in Germany) the size of Burien. I’m hoping that those who weild the power to lay down the laws, incarcerate, and lord over others, do so with compassion, insight, and self reflection that each person is a fellow human being and not just a criminal. Also, which is the most prevalent criminal conduct the police will be making arrests for? Thank you.
