Americans have a lot riding on this November’s election – democracy is on the ballot. Ukraine might have even more riding on it.
What would a Donald Trump win mean for Ukraine? Trump claims he’ll “end the war in 24 hours” – as usual, by making a deal.
I predict that Ukraine will not be a top priority for Trump. I guess that he will make statements and loud proclamations, fail to provide military aid, but not attend very soon to the hard work of a “peace deal.”
Vladimir Putin of Russia will be elated, hide his elation, and move more aggressively on Ukraine immediately.
In the meantime, Ukrainians will be running out of arms and ammunition, they will be dying on the fields, they will be angered by the bloody sacrifice they are forced to make at that point for nothing.
Trump’s win would not bring peace to Ukraine. Resistance, violence, economic misery, more slaughter of Ukrainians – more like liquidation – would likely ensue before any “deal” is reached.
But when you’re forced into a deal, two things happen. You resent it like hell, and because you were not part of the process, were treated like a pawn, you go at it again, sooner or later. Secondly, you are a sitting target of the oppressor for Round Two. Putin: ‘Aha! I won! And we’re already gearing up for more.”
This will also happen sooner rather than later. It’s nothing new: monarchs like Peter and Catherine the Great, communists like Stalin, a totalitarian murderer, and now a manipulator extraordinaire, Putin, have been taking advantage of Ukraine for centuries.
And Putin’s regime will have more than just Ukraine in its sights. Overt and covert war – we’re already in it.
What will a Trump win mean for Ukraine? The human desire for freedom and justice, for self-determination and self-expression, for reaching for the intellectual and economic stars that characterize the Ukrainian spirit will have suffered a bitter blow.
If Trump wins and fails to stand up to his friend, Putin, it’ll be a win in Europe for evil. More xenophobia, violence, and division will be a hallmark of the Putin Effect on the common person of Europe, like puppets on a string – strings pulled by power-hungry European politicians and money-hungry mafias. It’s an old playbook – it comes naturally to the grand puppeteers the world over.
Putin’s targets are global – and don’t forget that he sees himself at war right now not with Ukraine! He claims HIS WAR IS WITH THE UNITED STATES.
If Kamala Harris wins, some of the greatest defenders of freedom and democracy will have a new lease on life.
The US and European partners will continue to stand by Ukraine politically, morally and militarily.
Does arming Ukraine take money away from the US economy? No, it injects money into our economy. Almost 90 cents of every dollar spent on Ukraine for military assistance stays in the US.
Kamala Harris knows this. Even Donald Trump must know this. That’s why if he were president, he would continue to build the US military production line. He would keep arming the rest of the world – do massive arms “deals” – as he did the last time. His talk of peace is a sham.
If Harris wins, she will work closely with European allies to put Ukraine in the best position possible to get out of this tragedy that no one wants. No one wants war. Ukrainians don’t want to die. But there is a fate worse than death – it is a living hell. Life under the boot.
Harris will give Ukrainians what they need and deserve – and what we need and deserve. More democracy, not less.
Will Ukraine win the war? If Harris wins, she will have helped Ukrainians to do their best in a just cause. “A win” means to have taken blows but done your best. “A win” means that despite all you suffered, all you lost, all the compromises you had to make even with evil, you nevertheless didn’t suffer the ultimate loss – the loss of your morals.
One thing that I know for sure: If winning means holding fast to moral principles no matter what you’ve suffered, Ukrainians will win.
And Kamala Harris wants to be on the winning side. Smart woman.

Thank you Irene Danysh. You know Ukraine intimately and can see the horrific consequences in Donald Trump’s hands.
If Kamala Harris is so great, why hasn’t she done any of these things in the almost 4 years she’s been in office????
Kamala Harris is the VICE president. According to the United States Senate website, her responsibilities are to, “serve as presiding officer, the vice president has the sole power to break a tie vote in the Senate and formally presides over the receiving and counting of electoral ballots cast in presidential elections.”
What exactly do you expect her to have done without authority to do so?
…. respectively I’m not sure what truths are being said here. I do however see your opinion, and your timeline of events that was created in this letter. I hope the war is resolved peacefully soon. Unfortunately no one can see the future
Well, you probably need to know she is Vice President … not President. Here is the description of the Vice President duties ” The vice president’s duties and responsibilities are to succeed as president in the event the current president dies or resigns office, preside over the senate deliberations and cast any tie breaking votes, to serve as a representative of the president, and to serve as a member of the National Security Council. Although it does bring to mind Mr Trump ( who’s was the President) never did get that “big ,beautiful wall built that Mexico was gonna pay for
