Dear Editor:

We have a very important decision to make this election season. This decision will shape our schools for years to come. Will our School Board Director be a parent heavily involved in the schools in which he wants to lead; be a parent of children enrolled full-time in Highline schools; be a person who believes the future success of our children depends on looking forward with courage, not to the past in fear?

Carlos Ruiz is the only candidate for Highline School Board, Position 4, who is supported by both the Highline Education Association and the Washington Education Association. Carlos is also endorsed by MLK Labor and has the sole endorsement of the 33rd, 34th, and King County Democrats.

Carlos Ruiz brings excellent professional experience, community engagement, and a desire to improve our schools so ALL children thrive. Carlos has served professionally on multiple boards of directors, holding management accountable, and making sure that fiscal responsibility is a top priority. Carlos volunteers as a board member with Southeast Effective Development (SEED), a non-profit focused on affordable housing, supporting the arts, and economic development. He was also appointed commissioner by Governor Inslee to the Commission on Hispanic Affairs (CHA) representing King and Pierce Counties in 2018, but has not been a part of the CHA since September 2020.

Carlos believes that all students deserve a high-quality education and seeks to have a seat at the table to craft policies that serve all students in the district. Carlos will listen and consider all points of view as he develops strategies to increase the effectiveness of public education. Carlos is the right candidate at the right time.

VOTE CARLOS RUIZ for Highline School Board Position 4.
