The Burien City Council will meet Monday, May 4, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. to consider a range of issues including a proposed minimum wage ordinance, an economic development update and routine city business.
The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Burien City Hall (map below), and can be viewed live on Comcast TV Channel 21, via Zoom here and via live-stream here.
Monday’s meeting marks the fifth consecutive council meeting since April 6, a stretch that includes both regular meetings and study sessions. Usually there are only two or three meetings per month.
Among the key items on the business agenda is the introduction of Ordinance No. 892, which would repeal and amend the city’s minimum wage regulations.
Burien Municipal Code Chapter 5.15 was adopted by the City Council and may be amended or repealed by the council without a vote of the electorate. In contrast, Chapter 5.16 was adopted through a voter initiative and can only be repealed by a vote of Burien residents.
The item is scheduled for discussion and potential action and will be presented by Interim City Attorney Ann Marie Soto and Public Works Director Rod Steitzer.
Councilmembers also will receive an update on Opportunity Zones from Economic Development Manager Chris Craig, with potential action to follow.
In addition, the council is set to review its planning calendar, presented by Interim City Manager Bob Larson.
There is also an Executive Session on the agenda.
