Reports of a modified lockdown at Burien’s Highline High School on Tuesday afternoon, May 2, 2023, may have been because deputies located a robbery suspect near the school and took him into custody without incident.
Neighbors who witnessed the action said there were 8 to 9 police vehicles, and several officers seen around the school Tuesday afternoon.
Usually when a Highline Public School building goes on lockdown, a text message is sent out and also posted on the district’s website.
UPDATE May 3, 2023: Highline Public Schools told The B-Town Blog that this was a modified lockdown, and offered an explanation of safety procedures on their website.
The district also encourages anyone concerned to read this article that explains their process for communicating safety incidents with families, specifically about when they post information on their website and when they only email and text messages directly to parents.
The King County Sheriff’s Office told The B-Town Blog that “there is no active threat.”
