A power outage knocked out electricity for over 8,300 Seattle City Light customers in the Burien area on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024.
Seattle City Light is investigating the cause, and estimates restoration times at around 11 p.m.
The cause was possibly connected to a series of major wind squalls – with gusts around 40 MPH – that stormed through the region Sunday afternoon, but that has not yet been confirmed.

Below are some photos – courtesy Sharon Vail – showing downed trees on Normandy Road at Normandy Court Terrace Sunday afternoon, blocking the main exit/entrance to and from Normandy Park in both directions.
“Neighbors there tell me it was down on lines,” she told The B-Town Blog.
Normandy Park is served by Puget Sound Energy, and as of around 9 p.m., 30 homes were without power there.

The outage area stretches from the Three Tree Point/Gregory Heights area on the south, up through Boulevard Park and parts of White Center on the north.

Crews are responding to an outage in the Burien, Highline, and Boulevard Park areas affecting approx. 8,300 customers. The cause is under investigation, and an estimated time of restoration is yet to be determined. Follow along on our outage map at: https://t.co/ijUJXHhsDH. pic.twitter.com/t1w9nnmaGH
