Story and Photos by Chelle Herbruger The Highline High Pirates are playing at Safeco Field TONIGHT – Friday, April 20, 2018! Gates open at 5 p.m., and the game starts at 6 p.m. against Nathan Hale. Come spend the evening in the Diamond Seats at the Safeco FOR FREE and support the Pirates, one of only 18 high school teams who earned the privilege to play in the Safe this spring. This team of mostly Senior Pirates have played together a long time, and it shows on the field. They work like a well-oiled machine, with clean turns and Ichiro-like throws to keep their opponents at bay. They even have gutsy moves similar to seasoned Highline Bears Collegiate players! This past Wednesday the Pirates trailed the Steilacoom Sentinels 0-1 most of the game. In the bottom of the last inning, the Pirates got on base and used a few steals to tie the game, but they were not done! The go-ahead run got on first, and after a bit of inspiring baseball smack talk, he stole second to take the pressure off the batter. A clean hit easily scored the runner from second and the entire team took an elated Tour de Outfield in celebration. Highline trails Riverridge by one game in conference play. Both have one loss, but Riverridge has one additional conference win at this time. Nathan Hale is part of the 3A Central District and their conference ranking is not available (3A means they are a bigger school than Highline, which is 2A). Hope to see you at the Safe tonight!
