A rollover crash on northbound I-5 near Southcenter early Saturday morning, Dec. 7, 2024 left two people injured and disrupted traffic for more than six hours, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).
The collision occurred at approximately 12:24 a.m., when a 2019 Kia Optima struck a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado in the first lane of the freeway.
Following the impact, the Silverado hit the right shoulder barrier and came to rest on its side against a guardrail.
The Kia stopped partially in the first lane and on the shoulder.
Both drivers were injured and transported to Valley Medical Center.
The Kia driver was wearing a seatbelt and is facing charges of driving under the influence and vehicular assault.
The driver of the Silverado was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the collision, but the WSP confirmed that drugs or alcohol were involved. Both vehicles were totaled.
The accident resulted in a full lane blockage, with the roadway reopening after six hours and one minute.
The investigation remains ongoing.
