A man barricaded inside a Tukwila apartment was taken into custody by SWAT officers on Tuesday night, Oct. 13, and faces first degree burglary and felony harassment charges, according to the Tukwila Police Department.
The standoff unfolded in the 3700 block of Southcenter Boulevard (map below) in the late afternoon. Police said the anticipated charges stem from the initial incident that prompted the confrontation with officers.
Officers and negotiators worked to persuade the man to leave the apartment, according to police. A judge signed a warrant, and SWAT officers deployed distraction devices and later introduced chemical munitions into the apartment. Police reported that the man continued refusing to leave before SWAT took him into custody.
During the response, police asked residents and the public to avoid the apartment complex and stay clear of the block. The department said there was no threat to the public at the time of its initial notice. Police also advised that explosive sounds heard in the area came from SWAT distraction devices.
“We would like to thank the community for your patience and thank our regional partners on Valley SWAT for bringing this incident to a safe close with the suspect in custody,” the department said.
