Sylvester Middle School in Burien and Valley View Early Learning Center in SeaTac were closed Wednesday, Dec. 18, due to power outages caused by an overnight windstorm, Highline Public Schools district officials announced.
The closures affect all classes, including both AM and PM sessions at Valley View Early Learning Center.
However, the preschool program at Mount Rainier High School (MRHS) in Des Moines will operate on its regular schedule.
In addition to classes, all scheduled activities, athletics, and public meetings at Sylvester and Valley View have been canceled for the day.
District staff were reminded to follow school closure protocols, and parents and staff are encouraged to monitor the district’s website at highlineschools.org for updates and further announcements.
The windstorm, which brought strong gusts overnight, caused widespread power outages throughout the region, leaving several schools without electricity as crews work to restore service.
