On Ambaum Boulevard in Burien, licensed massage therapist Kana Morman has opened Slow Tide Bodywork with a clear focus: slow down, sink into the tissue, and give stubborn tension real time to release.

Her work is built around steady presence and sustained pressure, giving the body time to adapt rather than rushing through a standard routine.

“I work slowly and precisely,” says Kana. “Depth comes first, applied with weight and patience. You can’t force a muscle to let go – you have to hold sustained pressure long enough for the nervous system and tissue to soften on their own.”

Informed by Movement and Teate

Kana grew up in Japan, where touch is an everyday form of care known as Teate (手当て). The word translates literally to “applying hands,” reflecting the belief that supportive touch is a natural way to help the body reset.

Her perspective is also shaped by years of movement disciplines, including theater, dance, and teaching hot yoga. Those years taught her how bodies hold posture under strain, how breath dictates muscle tension, and how to spot compensation patterns that cause nagging pain. After graduating from the Northwest Academy of the Healing Arts, she opened Slow Tide to work with people who put real demands on their bodies – runners, lifters, tradespeople, cyclists, and desk workers with chronic neck and shoulder stiffness.

A Private Studio

Sessions at Slow Tide are one-on-one and tailored to how your body feels that day, not a generic routine. Clients stay in communication throughout the session to make sure the pressure is deep and effective without triggering guarding or bracing.

The Ambaum studio is a calm, private space where appointments are never rushed. Sessions are available in 60, 90, and 120-minute lengths, giving clients enough table time to address specific problem areas thoroughly.
