Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a violent altercation after a collision on westbound SR 518 near Sea-Tac Airport on July 30, 2024, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

Troopers said the incident occurred around 8 p.m. that night, when 9-1-1 calls reported a fight breaking out at the scene of the collision.

When Troopers arrived, they found two victims who stated they had been assaulted after attempting to exchange information with the occupants of a dark-colored Range Rover. According to the victims, the driver and passenger of the suspect vehicle assaulted both individuals, including punching a woman in the face while she was seated in her car.

During the altercation, the male victim’s firearm fell to the ground, which the suspects picked up before fleeing in the Range Rover. The male victim was also struck by the vehicle as it sped away, knocking him down. Both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Following a two-week investigation, WSP detectives identified and arrested the suspects, Shalynn Dual, 29, and Weldon Carey, 33. Both were booked into King County Jail on multiple felony assault and firearm charges.

Following a two-week investigation, the suspects were arrested on Aug. 14, 2024. Both have been charged with multiple felonies, including third-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm. Carey, who has a prior felony conviction, was in violation of Washington state’s firearms laws, while Dual faces similar charges due to a previous robbery conviction.

Details from charging documents:

  • The altercation began when Marie Dual, driving a Range Rover, cut off the victim’s vehicle near Sea-Tac Airport on July 30, 2024.
  • After stopping, Dual and Carey exited the Range Rover and aggressively approached the elderly victims.
  • Dual confronted the driver, 72-year-old Chris Garibaldi, while Carey assaulted his 77-year-old wife, Joan Hirshman, punching her in the face through the vehicle’s window.
  • During the struggle, Garibaldi’s firearm fell to the ground. Dual and Carey retrieved the weapon before returning to their vehicle.
  • As the suspects fled the scene, Dual allegedly struck Garibaldi with the Range Rover, knocking him down to the pavement.
  • Eyewitnesses reported the violent confrontation and provided details to 911 operators.
  • Both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the incident.
  • Dual and Carey fled the scene with the stolen firearm, which led to their arrest two weeks later after an investigation by law enforcement.

Charges include:

  1. People. Don’t get out of your car during fender benders these days. People act a fool out here. Just keep your mouth closed and quietly hand over your insurance information. SAY NOTHING. Because again, people are crazy and humanity is deeply lacking, no one cares about each other anymore, especially in this neck of the woods. Be safe everyone.

  2. Yep don’t get out of your car. Call the police. Thank goodness for webcams. Thank you law enforcement for catching these low-lifes! Cowards.

  3. Is this the same Black Range Rover that was involved in a road rage assault in West Seattle, where 2 women got out of the Range Rover, pulled a woman out of her vehicle, and beat her???

  4. The victims are my mother and her husband. Shalynn Marie Dual made bail today. Electronic monitoring. She was arrested on these assault charges while violating a restraining order in place for the owner of the SUV (another senior citizen, James Sullivan) against whom she had been extorting $, and threating his life if he stopped. Piece of work.

    1. …and just learned that she made bail this morning, and a few hours later was reported as “escaped”, which I interpret as she cut off her ankle monitor. Lovely.

      1. I can’t help but remember the time, just 2 years ago that your mother’s husband was cut off by my 16 year old son. He proceeded to follow him over a mile, trap him at an intersection, pull bear spray on him and punch his side mirror until it fell off, because my son refused to get out of the car as Chris demanded. My son talked lots of trash (I won’t deny that) but wouldn’t roll down his window to get bear spray in the face. Chris was a very angry man. Irrationally so, if you will. Makes me wonder if there’s maybe something missing here.

        1. Nothing that these women did is excusable, but yes, there is most definitely a reason for the two women to react that aggressively. Possibly, the dash cam driver and his wife had their own trash talking, and it set the Range Rover women off. But, the level they brought it to was way out of scope for the scenario. Egos are tender and, assuming their records are valid, these women have a documented history of poor choices, all snowballing to this moment and these charges.
I’m sorry for what happened to your son. It’s terrifying to think of our children getting terrorized by people doling out unhinged, vigilante justice. Children, even older teens, are most definitely still learning. Grown men and women should know better and be better.

          1. I 100% agree. In no way am i justifying what went on, I’m just saying it’s interesting and in no way surprising that he found himself in this situation.

  5. Where on the video does it show a weapon was picked up? Where on the video does it show a woman was assaulted? Where does it show the man was ran over by her car? All I’m seeing is a fender bender and people protecting their space.
