As many of our Readers may recall, in late August we reported about a tragic truck rollover on the southbound/S. 188th Street exit of SR 509 that resulted in a fatality.
The Washington State Patrol at the time said that the 19-year old victim – Andrew D. Long Jr. – was the Driver of the truck at the time of the accident.
We learned this week though that that information was incorrect – Long was actually the passenger in the truck, which was driven by his Supervisor, David J. Espinoza, 22.
Long was ejected from the truck, and was tragically killed as it rolled over onto him, WSP said in a police report dated Sept. 13.
Espinoza has been charged with Vehicular Homicide, and Troopers first released details based on their interview with him.
This story was updated due to new information shared with us by Long’s fiancé, Veronica Coronado, who said:
“Also would appreciate the change, as an explanation I can give to my daughter (who was just born 6 days ago) for when she gets older & the time comes I can tell her about her father.”
Remnants of a memorial for Long are still visible on the shoulder of the north side of the offramp.
Here’s a sketch and description that was included in the updated Sept. police report:
This off ramp has one lane.
Vehicle 1 left the roadway to the left, tripped on the curb and rolled.
An occupant was ejected from the vehicle as Vehicle 1 rolled over the occupant.
Vehicle 1 came to rest on the roof.
