The woman killed by a hit and run driver – who is still at large – outside the Highline Performing Arts Center Friday night, Feb. 24, has been identified by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office as April Brown Fait, 73.
April was tragically killed just before 7 p.m. when she was crossing S. 152nd to enter the center to see a grandchild perform in the St. Francis of Assisi production of “Annie, Jr.”
“April still worked for HIghline School District and when I asked about retiring, she wondered what she would do every day,” her cousin, Marty Katkansky, wrote on Facebook. “It saddens me that she will never enjoy retirement, but she did what she wanted. She was devoted to her family and we will all miss her.”
The driver of the hit and run vehicle – described as a newer, silver or grey sedan, most likely with damage to the right front – is still at large, and police are seeking the public’s help.
“I wonder what that person who was behind the wheel is experiencing right now,” Katkansky added. “Was it distracted or drunk driving? How can someone do this and live with the outcome?”
Here’s what Katkansky wrote on Facebook:
My cousin April Brown Fait was killed in a hit and run pedestrian accident in Burien Washington Friday night. I mourn for her and her children and grandchildren and her mom, Theo, who is 96 or so.
Aged 73, April still worked for HIghline School District and when I asked about retiring, she wondered what she would do every day. It saddens me that she will never enjoy retirement, but she did what she wanted. She was devoted to her family and we will all miss her.
Death awaits us all, but April was robbed of many years of life needlessly. We come from a long line of long lived women and it saddens me that she will never experience the joys of retirement, although working was what April wanted to do.
I wonder what that person who was behind the wheel is experiencing right now. Was it distracted or drunk driving? How can someone do this and live with the outcome?
Everyone at South King Media sends their deepest sympathies to all who knew April.
I have known April since the mid 1980’s and was shocked and saddened by news of her death. She will be missed by the Highline School District family
April was our neighbor and a wonderful lady. It makes me so sad for her family and friends who she left behind too early. I hope the driver has horrible guilt and comes forward for everyone’s sake. You are in our prayers April.
Blessings to April’s family.
Met April through soccer. Her daughter Robin played with our daughter.
Such a tragic passing. No one deserves this.
Here again I’m saying life is short, enjoy every moment with your family and friends.
May God’s love be with all who knew April.
April was my Aunt,
She was a influential part of my upbringing and always helped my mother with raising my brother and I as mom did for her.She will be dearly missed by us all. Who ever did this? Please just turn yourself in what happened is tragic but not stopping not being responsible is the real horror in all of this….She is a person that deserves your respect! Turn yourself in whoever you are…..
My deepest condolences to April’s family. Can’t imagine what a terrible loss this is for her friends and family. I’m so sorry. Have arrangements been made for her funeral, if there will be one? I’d like to pay my respects. God Bless April. RIP
Whomever committed this crime, please come forward and do the right thing. You must for the family’s sake and yours as well.
