A worker got shot at while chasing suspected burglars who attempted to steal what they thought was an ATM or Lotto machine (but was actually a Bitcoin machine) from a gas station in Burien on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

Police say the incident happened at a Mobil Gas Station located at 12609 Ambaum Blvd SW (map below), and reports are that it was the second time it was hit within days.

A suspect vehicle – later determined to be a stolen Kia Sorrento out of Kent – backed through the front of the station in an apparent attempt to steal the ATM or Lotto machine.

The burglary was interrupted by a worker, who then was seen by responding deputies chasing the unsuccessful suspects in a car.

Due to only having probable cause for Burglary however, a police pursuit was not initially authorized.

Deputies caught up to the gas station owner, and it was determined that the worker who was chasing the suspect vehicle actually got shot at as the suspects were fleeing, with one bullet striking their vehicle.

The suspect vehicle nor the suspects within was not located. Information was passed along to neighboring agencies.

One bullet casing was located from the shooting incident at SW 128th Street and 4th Ave SW.

This case will be forwarded to Major Crimes.
